Tetris Didn't Succeed at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant prize-giving event approaches, there’s always a demand for introducing additional classifications to honor unsung work and satisfy the hearts of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition for anything in 2014
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations in 2019
  • A beloved organization game got ignored recently
  • Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, while interacting across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers function at the demanding boundary interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
